What up ZC I had a good weekend My girls birthday was Saturday night, we went out to Mill ave. here in Tempe az. with some friends, good times with some good people cant ask for anything better! Ive been grinding all month playing between 25-50 STT's SNG per day mostly non turbo ones. My goal for the month of Jan. was 250 games played Im on pace for right around 400 played on the month. Im playing the 3.30 STTS and my goal is to move up to the 5.50s and then 10 and higher of course to build a nice playable roll. I wanna atleast have 50-75 buy ins per level unfortunately i have hit some negitive variance along with some not 100% play from me, so i have had to move down to the 1.20s for the time being. My attitude is still solid, staying on path. Im gonna try and upload some graphs from poker tracker and post some results on here, from time to time, keep track of my progress.

So this upcoming week I wanna play about 100-175 games and analyze my play better, see where my leaks are I think I am giving to much away on the turn. Luckily at these limits I have still been able to profit slightly. However I will not be able to progress as a player, when the play gets tougher. If i don't fix some of these fundamental problems now, I will just be loosing in the long run anyways. Self reflection is key.
Another thing I was curious about is the difference between STT and 18 mans and 45 mans at the micro limits after this month of atleast sticking with the STT approach. I may try 18 mans and 45 mans in Feb to see what the difference will be and how I should attack the games and what will be best for my ROI..

Hope you all are doing well! I haven't played too much poker at all besides a random Vegas layover where I got to play $1/$2 for about 5 hours while I waited 10 hours for my plane to arrive. My eventual goal right now is to get the 100k/yr in real life jobs and then start playing live when I got a real roll. It's too hard playing when you have a lot at risk, gotta keep it real. I feel like I've lost all drive since I had my good run in 2k7 where I did really well and pretty much blew it in the next year with taxes and playin reckless. I still smoke like a champ though so still keepin it real. I moved to Portland, OR in May of 2010 and really enjoying it, besides the mellow weather. Driving in rain everyday is a lotttt different than sunny AZ! Definitely don't miss the bullshit and drama that I had going on in AZ, knew wayyy too many people. Anyone who I personally know who wants to come kick it in PDX just lemme know on facebook or something and well make plans. Best of luck at the tables and in life ZC!

so the Horseshoe had decided (for whatever reason i dont know) that they were going to use the money from the cash game Bad beat jackpot in order to juice up the 1600 Main event and 10k event. For the past few weeks at their cash game tables...4 times a day....they HIGH CARDED for a free 1600$ main event seat (LOL?!?!)

It turned out about 250-300 of the 850ish entrants had received free seats...

So i play it and get a great table draw. 4 nits on my left (although i later found out a reg on my direct left had just shipped a live tourney for 700K+ (dont ask me how)...but he was a nit too.

So i ran over my first table...got moved late in day 1 and then had to pick my spots a little better. But overall it wasn't too difficult. I really didnt have any big all ins...or big coolers, or suckouts...just constantly building.

I really got in my zone when i had raised Q2ss pre, got called from the sb...flop was K94 (one s)... he checked, i cbet, he raised and i value 4 bet and he mucked. I know thats not to uncommon of a 4 bet nowadays, but ive always said to attack the K high flops harrrrrrrd when u were last aggressor pre (i swear it works 95% of the time)...so that hand was just a big confidence booster

Anyways ended day 1 at 127k (started 20k) and was above avg.

Day 2 was more of the same...a long grind without any big pots. As the field shrunk the tables got a lot tougher. Some real good players had a lot of chips, but just as many real BAD players had a lot of chips...

I never got a big stack late in day 2 and just had to pick my spots to make some moves. I thought i played really well and adjusted to players nicely as well as played my stack nicely (lately i think ive been bleeding some times when my stack falls below 30 bbs..playing shit like 78ss with 20 bigs, or 22-66 ep with 20 bigs....)

I was well below avg, but still had 25-30 bbs when i was lucky to get JJ all in vs AK and AK which woulda put me around 350k (avg being around 280). Lost that though and was left pretty short. Soon after however I 2.5x'ed up with AQ vs KJ (and a 3rd parties dead money).

I push/folded my way to about 350k and then this hand came up :

I raised 99 2.2x utg.....guy on my left who's been pretty tight flats with a stack of 250k....Agro late position guy 3.5x reraises....I 4 bet like 2.3x him.....the guy who flatted me goes all in (i obv cant fold)....squeezer insta mucks and i call.

He flips JJ.....door card is a 9! turn is a J :(

550k pot gone gone, left with 120k

Tightened back up and just picked my spots as the field shrunk. Ended up getting 24th when i shoved 13bb's or so SB/BB with K3cc and bb woke up to AThh.

paid 8700 so still a nice payday, but obv bittersweet since first was 250k

So then today i went to the bears game....wont talk about that...but after i returned to the casino to play both mega satties to tomorrows 10k . They are 560$ buy in with 5 10K SEATS ADDED TO EACH. They had been adding 5 10k seats to all these mega statties for the last 2 weeks (not sure how many their were).. Inssssssane value especially considering the players were terrible.

one started at 5pm the other at 7pm ...so i was two tabling.

both got about 150 entrants...so 12 seats awarded to 10k.

the 5PM was my main one...I played a very solid shove/fold game and just abused a few certain players (it was fun :) ). I had only gone to one showdown for more than a 10bb pot and that was 99 vs a QQ BB wake up job ...and that was only for about 25bbs....

Never had a huge stack in this either, but stayed around/slightly above avg most the way.

On breaks i'd run over to the other one and just shove...and people would just fold.

Eventually i had missed an hour straight and ran over at 300/600 and shoved 64dd for 4.5k. called by AJ and i rivered a striaght! Next hand i had AQ in bB and got all in for 20k (good pot in this tourney) pot vs 77 but bricked out and that was the end of that tourney (basically...i actually blinded out of my last 1000 chips i think).

back to the main satty....

It got down to 17 people left pretty quickly and i was one of the shorter stacks with around 10-15 bbs (remember 12 get seat).

I played tight and built my tight image getting QQ twice and shoving and showing both times. PLayers def thought i was tihgt...but i'd shove from button/sb with XX any time i could becasue both players on my left had bigger stacks and were good enough players to know they had a seat locked up if they just didnt play a hand.

Well we get down to 13 players and are hand for hand. I have a tight image...player on my direct left (who was a super nice kid) has shown he's willing to raise light and just keep chipping up even though it was def unnecesarry. On the other table we had our first all in between the shortest stack A3 vs a bigstacks KQ. Flop was TJX and KQ bricked out!! funny thing was the short stack A3 100% thought he lost the hand and packed up and was walking away as dealer shpped him the pot and players had to call him back...soooo close. Very next hand that same guy plays a pot vs Kathy leibert...board was K947A and on the river this moron bets 7.5k leaving himself about 27k and Kathy snaps him off with JJ LOL ..he says Jack high and mucks (again though...no clue why kathy was playing seeing as her chip stack locked her a seat up also).

anyways, back to my table....im in the bb with 32k at 1200/2400. UTG is the agro kid, he has about 75k (maybe a little less). He makes it 5100 and it's folded to me. I was sure he was capable of raising light....i knew he thought i was super tight....and i knew he was a real solid player. All this added up to me thinking he would be folding anything but QQ,KK,AA and AK if i shoved. So i shoved. He tanked, got a count....and the dealer obv gives him the count of 21,900 and before he snap calls i obv quickly correct the dealer cuz it was 31,900 (prob gave off a tell there but i think i had to do it)....anyways, he thinks a lil then calls with TT...obv everyone thought i was insane for my 22 shove...maybe i was but i know if im in that kids spot i fold QQ, i fold AK, i might fold KK, i might fold AA (no joke). I mean...he had a seat locked up if he blinds out...and calling off with TT when I'm repping AK/99+....i donno...he woulda been one of the short stacks if he loses...just seems like a pointless call.

as i said though, this kid was reallly nice and really good. We talked after and he said he could not believe i shoved 22 there and that he thought i had a monster but i just didnt have enough chips to make him fold.

That was a very costly bad read on my opponent and to be honest i felt sick driving home after that. NOt because it was a bad beat (cuz it obv wasn't), not because it was a cooler (cuz it obv wasn't), not because i def woulda folded TT there (dont get me wrong, he made the right, and a good call), not because all them morons at the table thought i was an idiot...but just because i was soooooo sure he was folding 99% of his hands there when in fact he was calling pretty light.

probably made my 15 bb shoves with 62, T5cc and Q4 earlier pretty bad too :(

so ya, got 13th with top 12 got 10k seats + $439 cash each.....sucks but atleast it was my fault.

I feel like im playing real well live lately and can't wait to play some more.

NAPT LA in a few weeks!

I've decided I'm cutting the trip short and taking off tomorrow after watching the Bears game. I think I might stop by the Pottawatomie Casino in Milwaukee for a few nights there (that's where i used to use my fake id to get into when i was 18-20).

The reason I'm leaving early is mainly to ensure I'm able to make the $1600 Circuit event near Chicago. It's also party because I'm still so pissed about blowing 3k last night.

Overall the trip was a success...not at all what how i planned (planned to play tourneys all day and little cash, ended up playing 95% cash). And for once I actually had a lot of fun grinding cash talking with the other players where as usually it drives me insane.

I think I'm going to try and play some more live limit cash games in the near future. According to the good players i played with and talked to on this trip, the Canterbury 30/60 is one of the toughest 30/60's in the US. They listed off numberous locations where the games are much softer, and actually i had multiple people tell me the that at one of the casinos in PHX is the softest higher stakes Limit around.

I also think i was one of the better (if not the best) player each time i played the 30/60 here. I received many compliments on my game, and nobody wanted to be on my right, and only a few wanted to play shorthanded with me.

That being said, none of that matters if I'm going to have a rediculous Tilt session where i blow 3 racks once a week. I also know there were mannny hands i played poorly. I have lots of room for improvement atleast

Gl to the bears tomorrow

ended up playing 30/60 form 10pm to 8am...game was softer than it's been all week.

I rollercoasted down 2k...up 1k..down 2500....back to even....then...

some moron slowrolls me when i river trips and donk lead river...he raises...i call and he says "you win". I flip my hand and then he shows 34 for flopped wheel...."i thought if you bet the river that meant you had to have me (even tho he raised lol)...

anyways ended up tilting the next 3 hours and losing 3k on the night.

im so dumb...was sooo tired i shoulda just quit.

After i had posted my last blog entry, i decided to return to the 30/60 around 2:30 am and ended up playing for about 6 hours and losing about 1200 total....whatever

I then went home, slept some, got up, did the usual routine of going to this park and walking/jogging around for a while...then returned to canterbury for the 30/60.

The game hadnt started by 4pm, but we got it going 6 handed around 4:30. I started off down about 1k just grinding then the next 12 hours are kind of a blur. REally, time just flies when your grinding live because it really didnt feel like a 13 hour session, and i could probably do another 13 in my curent state.

If you asked everyone at my table i was getting "hit with the deck" all night. I obviously would argue against that...they just think that becuase every time i win without showdown i claim the nuts and never show a bluff...and every time i lose with AA, KK , Set, flush i dont show my hand like all the other donks...i just muck.

To be honest though, it's been so much fun playing this 30/60 and becoming a temporary "regular". Theres usually only 1 or 2 players at the table who are annoying, but the rest of us are all friends and are constantly joking around.

This game did get super juice about 8 hours in when "George" - an asian who owns his own sushi restaraunt- joined the game. i played with him the other night and he dropped 5 dimes in about 2 hours. Tonight he had dropped 5k over the course of 4 hours, so he's getting better. The two solid regs who ive been playing with every night had to leave early, so really the game was at it's juiciest point when i had to leave, but i have to wake up tomorrow becasue some of my family is visiting...so i called it quites up about 3500

stil not sure if im going to play any tourneys at all... and might not play cash for a night or two depending on Fam status.

I ran hot right away winning the first 3 big pots i played in. Was up probably 3500-4000 after maybe an hour and a half. Then I wasn't catching cards and definitely spewed some chips.

I left up 2500, but for the way i ran it shoulda been more

I'm thinking about leaving here early to play the circuit events in Chicago but i'm not too sure yet

Skipped the Tournament again today..needed my sleep. Went around 10pm to play some cash. PLayed full ring 15/30 while waiting for the 1 table of 30/60 to get an open seat.

Lost about 400 at the 15/30 before an older man approached me asking if i was Brent...he wanted to know if i wanted to start the 2nd 30/60 table and play HU. I hadn't seen him here playing yet, and he was old, so i figured it was a safe bet. As the table was getting set up, I learned from comments from other players that this guy is supposedly a real solid Limit player who loves playing HU. Through talking to the guy i learned he had just won a Heartland poker tour for 180k and got 4th in the 1k up here taht i played a few days ago.

I told myself if i thought i was overmatched i'd just quit, but figured more or less it would be an evenish match and would just be good to pass the time.

We traded up to 500 dollars for 45 minutes or so and then i made a few hands and was up about 1200 after an hour. This guy, DiMarco, was extreeeeeemely friendly and a joy to play with. We talked about everything from golf, to traveling, to family and to be honest, when im old if im still around a poker table, he is what i would idealy like to be like.

Eventually 2 seats opened at the 30/60 so we moved over there. Right away i made 2 draws on the river and was up another 500 or so. The very next hand I lost with AA in a big pot to dimarcos set (only fair tho since i had the best of the luck HU)...and then lost with QQ and JJ to the one huge fish at the table and soon found myself back to my initial buy in from the HU match.

We played 6-7 handed for a while and the game was certainly tougher than usual with only one real fish (this asian moron). I had dimarco on my direct left, and he plays a lot like i do (isolating in position with a wiiiiiide range, betting any pair out, and calling down with Ace highs), so that made it even tougher.

As we went 5 handed it was me, Dimarco, the solid reg whos been there every night, the regs friend, and the terrible asian. While the asian was on smoke break the others commented how the asian would likely leave if he won a big pot, cuz he's a d-bag like that. Sure enough, he comes back, takes 2 pots off me and then gets up and leaves.... I ended down 700 @ the 30/60 (and down 500 from the 15/30).

Not sure what the plan is for tomorrow...probably more cash...

ps...the most recent It's always sunny and southpark were excellent. Oh, and eastbound and down!

After playing cash late last night, i slept in planned to late reg the 200 NL noon event.

I arrived at Canterbury at 1:20 assuming late reg went atleast 3 levels ....only to find out it closes after 1 level lol....oh well.

Ended up going back and sleeping a few more hours and then returned about an hour before the Vikings/Jets monday night football game.

I hopped on the 15/30 and 30/60 lists and ended up sitting 15/30 for about 45 minutes before getting a seat at 30/60.

while at 15/30, there was this one Canterbury Reg (a younger kid) who i think is one of the most anoying regs there (from previous years experience). Sure enough , he's talking up a storm. Right away i win 3 or 4 pots showing down top pair and he insta comments about how no matter what cards i raise with i always hit top pair.

Usually at this point i stay quiet and let the idiot regs do their talking while they donate... For whatever reason though i decided to go off on him for being a moron anoying canterbury reg. he acted soooo childish after that it was just humorous... It was literally like fighting with an 8 year old. Anyways, he continued to lose, and i made about 550 within the hour at that table.

Then the 15/30 broke and i sat 30/60...playing 7 handed or so.

I was getting no hands to even really play, which is better tahn getting the marginal hands taht get you into trouble. I mainly blinded away, but played 3 bigger pots all of which i lost. Over a 3 hour span i lost about 1k. Then some terrible asian regs sat down and the game got real juicy. I was still card dead for a while, and almost got up and left on several occasions, but watching these fools play the way they did i had to stick around. Soon enough i made back to back hands and was back to even. Over the next 3 hours i was up about 1500. Then the 3 fish (who had dumped about 7k combined on the table) dispersed and we were left playing 3 handed with the exact same two others from last night (the one solid reg, and the terrible player who was lucky).

I definitely ran better tonight 3 handed...the Solid reg ran pretty bad (and was spewing uncharicteristically), and the bad player started off down a quick 1000 but turned it around when he went on a sick 10 hand heater where he made about 2 racks.

We played 3 handed for about 4 hours and as my session passed the 12 hour mark i was up 3500ish. The crappy player ended up leaving (up 1200 dont ask me how), and the solid reg had a loooooooooooooooooooong session and prob broke evenish.

Atleast that session but me back up for the trip

Tommorrow is a 200 limit tourney at noon (5 hours)...doubt ill be up to play it but im gonna set my alarm and see how i feel

today i drove an hour south to play another casinos Main Event. It was a 1k with 50 minute levels and 30k starting stack at 25/50...so a better structure than CAnterbury's tourneys.

Plus this casino had sattalited in over 160 players...so the field was uber soft. Ended up getting 250 players.

To avoid turning this into a complete bad beat blog...ill just say i lost a 75bb and 70bb pot that shoulda been mine...busted like 130th or so.

As for cash games, ive been playing the 30/60 at canterbury when it's been running. Most of the time its been short handed which i loveeeee.

we played 3 handed for 6 hours tonight...two of us would straddle every button so it was a very actiony game. I love when it comes down to making the thinnest value bets, the the slimmest of folds and the trickiest bluffs, which is exactly what this game was.

I was playing with one solid reg ( i'd say he played better than me..which i will rarrrrely admit to vs a canterbury reg). And then there was a huge moron who im pretty sure had just won the 200 NL event today, and then decided to sit with some of his winnnigs on 30/60 (i say this becasue he was walking around with his trophy LOL (although Canterbury players are known to carry a trophy with them everywhere for atleast 3-4 days after winning a tourney...so who knows).

Anyways, i felt i played really well and dont think i missed a single value bet all night. I was on the bad side of 5 coolers to the terrible player(legit redic coolers for a 3 handed game), who had also coolered the other kid 3 times...it was pretty unreal. I ended up down 1200 for the night and the other good player lost about 1k.....fun.

seriously though i'd play that game everyday if i could....so much fun and deep thinking

tomorrow is a 200 NL event...hopefully i'll have some better news to report next time

Canterbury Fall Classic Event 1

Well I arrived up here in Shakopee MN last night, and couldnt wait to play the first Event of this years Fall poker classic Series.

Canterbury is where i got my live start in poker since they allow you to play at 18. It's also the place where i had my first tournament win. I think i've played the series 3 different years, and have had 2 Wins (40k and 30k) and a few other final tables. While I certainly enjoy the success i've had at this card club, it's home to the most annoying regulars ever. it's a LIMIT only casino, so most the regulars are old, and since the series is mainly NL events...welll, think about playing NL tournaments with old guys who normally play limit...

reallly the feilds dont get much worse than these.

Todays 300 NL EVent 1 drew about 250 players. I really couldnt believe how many regulars i recognize from back in the day...

This tourney started with 12k chips @ 50/100 and 40 minute blind levels...not the best structure that's for sure, but i really like it given the quality of the field.

To my direct left i had an old lady who i knew to be super tight (and alwyas very loud celebrating if she wins a hand..and pissed off if she doesnt), and to my direct right i had a 15/30 limit regular (who i had been shitting on 5 handed at the cash tables a few hours earlier). Besides that i recognized 3 faces but didnt know much about them.

The first 4 hands of the tourney it was folded to me and i had a pocket pair (QQ,22,66,22) so i opened it 4 hands in a row and ended up folded all 4 without a showdown. While i only lost 2k in chips...it certainly established an image for me at the table.

Key hands :

1st hand of tourney: QQ
I make it 250...bb r/r to 600 and i Flat
K78 all Clubs ( i have no club)....
he cbets and i fold.

Blinds 100/200 (i'm making it 450 every time folded to me)
92os (2 of hearts)... i raise 450
lady defends SB and we see a flop K84hhh
she checks, i bet 500, she makes it 1400, i make it 3100 she insta mucks saying "i had to see if you really had it"

Very next hand : J8cc..i raise 450...3 see a flop 864 (1 club)
I cbet 800 into 1500ish...1 caller...
Turn is 5c...I check/Call 1200
River is 9c... I bet 3200 and am called by TT

Stack about 14k now...
early position raises to 500 and i flat button with J9ss...BB calls too
J97 flop and guy cbets 1k...i make it 2200 and call his shove of 5600 total
he has AJ and i hold...up to about 20k

I win about 5 hands in a row with air and get up to 26k

blinds 100/200 ante 25...folds to sb who makes it 700 (he's the 15/30 guy whos been abso tight).

I have TT in bb and just call.
Flop 974 and he cbets 1500..i call
Turn 6 and he bets 3000...i go all in (he has 8500 behind)...He calls ...flips A9...
river A (obv..but a cooler so w/e)
.......

Down to 12k...Chip up to 15k and blinds go to 200/400.

UTG i get AK and make it 900...Lady makes it 2500...
almost folded here, but ended up r/r to 6k (knowing she's plenty capable of calling and folding my flop shove of about 8k)
She Calls quick...flop is AA9 and i insta shove...
she thinks for about 3 minutes then calls with QQ...
Turn Q...GG me (oh and obv she screams in celebrations...this lady was so clueless)

So overall things could have gone better but im still veryyyyy confident ill go deep in one of these tourneys.

I did swap 5% with this random kid i met up here a few years ago (i swapped 5% with him when i shiipped a tourney back then lol).

I also found out theres a 1k Main Event for another casino about 45 minutes away tomorrow, so ill be playing that instead of canterburys 2nd event.

Today went really well. Started the day off with a $22 plo hu, won it so the session was off to a good start and i was relived of the tilt i was still suffering from yesterday. Played 4-5 tables of .25/.50 plo 6 max 50bb max then threw in some .50/1 with decent results.

One thing i noticed today which was really inspiring was a lot of the regs are really terrible at plo. I usually try to have really good game selection but i really don't think its going to matter at these stakes.

Day 5 +$129

Overall +$370

I need $3130

Yesterday was mostly Plo hu's. Played a bunch of $22's and some $33's. I don't know why but i find it so much harder to beat these stakes but i crush the $57's. Maybe it's because i take the $57's really seriously but i'd like to think i take them all seriously.

I played pretty we'll but i was unlucky in almost every pot that was for the win. I saw a reg i've played before before in the $57's sitting so i played her, had her drawing to 4 outs then 9 outs for the win when she had 330 in chips. Lost them both, then lost the match.

My main problem in plo hu's is when i have my opponent down to 10-15 bb when the blinds are like 5-10 or 15-30. I just cant find a strategy that works. I think im going to try just limping otb in these spots to see flops. Anyone have any plo hu sng advice on this???

Day 4 -$73

Overall +$241

I need $3259
